Debunkz
Part 1 of 1
What is Freelancer.com?
I’ve joined Freelancer in 2010 and at that time it was one of the biggest and greatest spots for peple working from home that you could find. With a huge dedicated team and millions of users and companies it was one of the top websites.
As a freelancer you can place a bid on any projecet that is advertised with your proposal. Each project has a budget, for example 50 - 250$ per task or a hourly rate and a time frame in which it has to be completed.
Job board
When creating your pofile on the platform, you can choose the skills you have and according to those job offers are shown. 15 years ago you could choose amongst hundrets of skill categories. The selection today is even larger.
From programming, accounting, virtual assistants, legal services, etc. there is almost no category that you cant choose. Even one called Odd jobs.
Your competition
Each and every category has its user base, or the people that you are bidding against. From people who have an decent understanding in for example data entry to electrical engineers.
That is of course not the selection criteria the job advertiser is always looking on. When I was selected by an advertiser from the UK by a pet rehoming business they looked to give a chance to someone new and less experienced.
My tasks were working on a WordPress website, posting ready made posts and categorising them.
As advertized or not
Yes, definitely. I was able to make more than 300$ per month working on Freelancer.com

In my opinion 15 years ago this was one of the go to platform for freelacers and a state of the art website of its kind.
- Your own small portfolio
- Passt jobs
- Job filtration according to your selected categories
- Public questions board
- Project clarification board
- Escrow (something like an upfront payment)
liked less
Like every man made creation, also frelancer has its flaws.
- Job hunters (barely a job is posted and there are already numerous bids)
- Free account limitations (you get a certain amount of bids per month)
Conclusion + further advice
Freelancer.com even 15 years later stil remains one of the best websites for beginers as well as professionals. Although it has a very big user base, newcomers are always welcome.
I will revisit Freelancer.com soon in the near future.
What to consider?
- Complete your profile for the full benefits
- Post your past work and job experience
- If you are serious about freelancing than this is a great starting point
- Always, and I mean always read the project description very carefully
- Check the legal requirements in your country (got to pay the taxes, right!)
